Dear Lena Gardens Community

Welcome to the 2018-2019 academic year at Lena G – I am delighted to ‘open’ the year and our website with best wishes to everyone and with us all looking forward to the best year possible for all of our students. If you are a new family at Lena Gardens a big ‘welcome’ and if you and your daughters/ sons are returning we hope you all had a wonderful summer.

We hope our website gives you a flavour of the work and learning we do at Lena Gardens.

We ended last year with so much to be proud of and were delighted by the academic achievements and progress of our Y6 students. They worked hard and were rewarded by their results, and who can forget their production of Oliver! at the end of term. We’re ready now to ensure our new Y6 students all achieve their very best they can!

We loved our Enterprise Academy initiative and enjoyed a number of events that we shared with our parents/ carers and families including a fab Winter Wonderland and fashion Show.

Our PSA reformed and are ready to build on their successes. If you are a Lena G parent/ carer and would like to get involved in the important work they are planning this year please let us know asap!

They do such valuable work in raising money and helping with extra opportunities for our students.

We also enjoyed a fab 1st year as part of the GGL Federation (Greenside, Griffin & Lena Gardens).

Being part of the Federation allowed our students & staff the opportunity to work & learn together and to participate in such joint ventures as an Y6 Maths Conference, a Dance Festival and shared e-learning projects. We are looking forward to being part a ‘bigger’ GGL and TEF community this year and building on our 1st year to benefit every member of staff and student. For our Teachers working within the Federation brings so many possibilities and opportunities

In the summer term we talked with our parents/ carers about some changes that we needed to put in place for September 2018. These are because of the falling roll at Lena G and the low numbers of students across Hammersmith & Fulham primary schools.

We are set to run a joint Nursery & Reception class, a Y1 class, mixed Y1 & Y2 class and two parallel mixed Y4, Y5 & Y6 classes.

We will write to our families at the end of the 1st week of term with an update on changes, groups and sharing contact details for roles & responsibilities at Lena G this term.

We are delighted that on a day-to-day basis Rahat Malik & Hima Mistry our 2 Deputy Principals will run our academy together. Rahat will lead everything to do with EYFS (Nursery & Reception) and Y1 whilst Hima will lead our students and staff in Y2 – Y6.

We look forward to working with you this year to ensure we support every student to have a wonderful year of learning. We will meet with parents/ carers early in Week 2 to give an update and to talk with you about the future.

With best wishes for the autumn term.

Karen Bastick-Styles (Executive Head) GGL – Greenside, Griffin & Lena Gardens.
